I have a simple 16x16x16 voxel cube that I have coloured in the following way.
When I export the object as an OBJ it creates triangles where none are needed where colour boundaries are. This is not needed as it should be handled in the texture itself. As you can see, this cube which should be 12 triangles is actually ~400
There is no easy workflow in an external application to rectify this either as it's more than just simplifying the geometry, but the manipulating the textures to accommodate the changes. While I understand voxel data is not the same as geometric data, by exporting
as an OBJ it now IS a geometric object which is what most software uses and renders.
Is there an export option I've missed that does this?
or if not, a solution elsewhere that fixes this?
